Stories by
Dr John A A Nichols
I was a GP (family doctor) and researcher for many years and my approach to writing a story is similar to how I approach a research project. If I have a theory I cannot test in the real world, I can put it to the test within a fictional framework. For instance in "Professor Ricksted's children and the aliens" I have floated the idea that children who lack the gene for human communication and language may be better able to communicate with aliens whose language sounds like gobbledegook to the adults. If the reader finds my story plausible, perhaps my theory is correct - just perhaps.

Professor Ricksted's Children and the Aliens
June 2023
Two alien space crafts are hurtling towards Earth. One is a dangerous enemy and the other is a friend. The US president wants to nuke them, most unwise. They will be his nemesis! The friendly alien is trying to warn Earth of the the approaching danger but their attempt to communicate sounds like gobbldegook. Professor Ricksted at Harvard University has discovered a genetic language deficit that tends to be misdiagnosed as autism but it seems that some children with this condition can understand the alien gobbledegook.

The Cosmic Lifeguard and Other Stories
June, 2023
The alien was questioned by an emergency sitting of the UN. He said "I am Saratin and I have just one talent. I can save people from the sea and bring them back from a watery grave." He was soon able to demonstrate his talent when a Phillipino ferry sank in a freak storm. My sister-in-law, Aunt Mary, thought he must have been sent by God! Other stories in this book start in ancient Greece with the story of Hippocrates and a slave girl and then continue through the middle ages, the 1960s, current times and into the very distant future - like a journey in a time machine.

Stories of the little green caravan
This is a largely autobiographical account of my feelings and experiences as a 4-year-old boy when my parents split up and I and my mother spent nearly two years living in a caravan on a farm. My adventures included being chased by angry geese, falling into a sheep dip and flying a "spitfire".

Where Darwin Meets Hippocrates
Charles Darwin and Hippocrates are surprised to actually meet up on a pleasant sunny hillside and wonder if this could be "Heaven". This book is really an introduction to the world of Nutritional Medicine. Each chapter is introduced by a dialogue between Darwin and Hippocrates and with their help, the story of Nutritional Medicine unfolds as their friendship deepens.

The Trial of Gardener Lodden

The Queen of the Critons rules her sector of the galaxy with an iron fist but she has a softer side. Her private retreat is a garden planet, Spara 692, supervised by one of her favorites, a Criton scientist called Lodden. She loves her garden planet and refers to its guardian as "Gardener Lodden." However, when she visits with her recently acquired male consort, there is an unfortunate incident involving a large carnivorous dinosaur and she leaves the planet in a dangerous dark mood. Lodden is devastated and retreats to his home on the planet's only moon where he puts himself into absolute cryostasis for millions of years and whilst he "sleeps" weeds grow in the garden. The worst weeds are bipeds evolved from apes who take over the planet, pollute the atmosphere and damage flora and fauna. When Lodden awakes, it is inevitable that sooner or later there will be an encounter between Lodden and a biped (or "human") and when this happens, a train of events unfold that leads back to the Queen herself and a dread judgement.
